We're Going on a Bear Hunt

This week in Nursery we our sharing one of our absolute favourites with the children. You can watch a version of the story here…

Once you have shared the story with your child you could try some of these activities.

Communication and Language

You will probably notice that your child is already quite familiar with this story – encourage them to join in with the repeated parts e.g. ‘We can’t go over it, we can’t go under it!’ They may also be able to make a guess about which part of the story comes next. Is it the snowstorm or the mud?

Physical Development

Take the story outside. Our children always enjoy recreating this story in our gardens. Listen carefully to the language describing how to move. Can you ‘stumble trip’, ‘swishy swash’ or ‘squelch’ your way through your garden?

Mathematics

This story uses lots of language to describe position. At nursery we like to play lots of games to help children to understand these words e.g. On top, underneath, through, behind, at the side. Could you play a game where you ask your child to…. Stand on top of their bed, Climb underneath a table, Make a tunnel to climb through?

Understanding the World

During this topic we explore where a bear might live. We also look at other animals and where they live. This lesson on Oak Academy explores which animals live in the woodland

Expressive Arts and Design

Look at the description of the bear ('One shiny wet nose! Two big furry ears! Two big goggly eyes! IT'S A BEAR!'). Can your child use pen and paper to draw a picture of a bear? We’d love to see their picture when they return to Nursery
